Our mission
Pairent is an app made to help break the feeling of isolation which often comes with modern parenthood. By helping parents connect with each other, Pairent fosters group playdates, new friendships, and helps parents build local communities.
Our Story
We had our first child after moving a thousand miles away from our family and friends. Without an established group of local friends, raising kids was emotionally draining, especially when the pandemic hit. We want to make it easier for parents in isolating circumstances to reach out to potential friends. We hope Pairent will help not only set up playdates and forge friendships, but reinvent the way new parents are able to be social in the real world.
About the Founder
Michael (Misha) Smirnov: I received my PhD in Neuroscience from Georgetown University, and then moved to South Florida, where my wife, Brittany, was in residency practicing medicine. As a neuroscientist, data scientist, and programmer, I was spearheading the creation of a Neural Data Science program at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience. At the same time, we had our first child, and I spent most of my paternity leave going for long hikes with a baby strapped to my chest. It was rewarding but lonely... At one point I thought - "If only there was an app where I can find other parents to do this with," and the idea for Pairent was born.
During the pandemic, like many other parents, we found ourselves feeling more isolated than ever. My wife found a new job close to her family near Washington, DC, and I took the opportunity to leave my job and work on Pairent full-time.
